CardiacMate Digital Health Platform

CardiacMate was an innovative smartphone app designed to support early cardiac rehabilitation for patients who experienced acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

This approach aimed to address gaps in the secondary prevention of coronary heart disease by providing clear guidance on early physical activity following an ACS event.

Study Design:
The SMART-REHAB Trial evaluated the effectiveness of the CardiacMate app through a randomised controlled trial. This study assessed whether using CardiacMate helped patients with ACS engage in early physical activity and improve their overall cardiovascular health.

Clinical Trial Notes:
SMARTphone-based, early cardiac REHABilitation in patients with acute coronary syndromes [SMART-REHAB Trial]: A randomised controlled trial protocol. There were well-documented treatment gaps in the secondary prevention of coronary heart disease and no clear guidelines to assist early physical activity after acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Smartphone technology provided an innovative platform to close these gaps. This paper described the study design of a randomised controlled trial that assessed whether a smartphone-based secondary prevention program could facilitate early physical activity and improve cardiovascular health in patients with ACS.
