Introducing rxConnect®
At HITORI, we’re always looking for ways to simplify and enhance digital health integration. That’s why we built rxConnect® our proprietary middleware designed to streamline connectivity with eRx and the Services Australia HI Service, making eScript (electronic prescriptions) integration easier, faster and secure for your own custom healthcare portals and software.
rxConnect® is enterprise-ready electronic prescribing middleware — fully owned, critical infrastructure with private data silos and zero SaaS reliance. Built to be controlled internally under a perpetual licence.
1-2 Day Integration. Fully Owned. Production Ready with Your Compliant Portal.
Integrating with Australia’s ePrescribing ecosystem can be complex, requiring secure and compliant data exchange between multiple systems. rxConnect® acts as a secure bridge – enabling healthcare providers and software vendors to connect effortlessly with eRx and the Services Australia HI Service.
With rxConnect®, most teams can begin compliance preparation within days rather than spending months or even years building and validating Australian Digital Health infrastructure from scratch.
Announcement: My Health Record (MHR) integration is also available via our mhrConnect®
With rxConnect®, you get:
✅ Seamless ePrescribing integration – connect with eRx and Services Australia without the hassle.
✅ Integration in 1–2 days – a simple copy-and-paste setup once your environment is ready.
✅ Fully owned connection – your integration, not another third-party dependency.
✅ Secure & compliant architecture – built with HIPAA standards and ADHA requirements in mind.
✅ rxConnect® integration in days – connect to HI Service and eRx faster with expert guidance.
✅ Scalability & reliability – built to handle high-volume transactions, hosted on your server or ours.
✅ Full UI & front-end workflow – customisable user interface components for clinicians and patients.
✅ Unlimited prescribers & clinics – one licence, scale across your entire organisation.
✅ No ongoing licensing fees – one-off infrastructure investment, no recurring licensing fees.
✅ End-to-end support – from middleware to fully compliant portals and apps, if you need them.
We’ve designed rxConnect® to simplify integration for digital health platforms, fully compatible with existing clinical systems and supporting both real-time and asynchronous prescribing flows.
Flexible deployment & strategic support
While rxConnect® can be integrated as a standalone service within your existing portal or platform, we offer far more than a simple eScript API. We provide consulting and guidance to help ensure your application or platform operates as a legally compliant prescribing system in Australia.
Our healthtech team has over 10 years of experience building for major organisations like The Alfred, Monash Health, Austin Health, Dementia Australia, and Cannatrek. You gain a trusted partner who knows what’s required for clinical and regulatory approval. You can use rxConnect® on your own platform, and if needed, we can also build custom portals and apps and provide strategic healthtech guidance, including workflow and product design to ensure a smooth, compliant experience for clinicians and patients.
Whether you’re developing a healthtech platform, medical app, or tailored electronic prescribing solution, rxConnect® makes integration simpler, faster, and more reliable, with an integration you fully control, not a third-party black box.

rxConnect® FAQ's
Most customers integrate rxConnect within 1–2 days. Our middleware provides pre-built connectivity to eRx and the HI Service, allowing your development team to focus on delivering clinical workflows and user experiences instead of building and managing complex digital health infrastructure from scratch.
rxConnect provides production-ready REST APIs and optional UI components for secure connectivity to:
- eRx Script Exchange
- Healthcare Identifier (HI) Service (Tech.SIS.HI.06)
- Patient identifier validation (UC.010, UC.015, UC.330b)
- Electronic prescription creation, retrieval and dispense workflows
- Authentication and secure session handling
- REST-based APIs across all endpoints
- Audit and compliance logging for traceability
- Robust error handling and transaction management
- Optional user interface components (React / iFrame)
- Conformance support aligned to Australian Digital Health requirements.
rxConnect® is designed for organisations building their own healthcare software and requiring a direct, end-to-end integration with Australia’s digital health infrastructure, including eRx and the HI Service.
It is best suited to:
- Custom-built patient management systems
- Telehealth and virtual care platforms
- Health technology startups
- Enterprise healthcare software vendors
- Web, cloud, mobile, and desktop healthcare applications.
rxConnect® is ideal for organisations that want to own and control the integration, user experience, and data flow within their own platform, rather than relying on third-party prescribing or patient management systems.
While rxConnect® can technically be used by smaller telehealth providers, it is generally most cost-effective for organisations with larger scale requirements, dedicated development resources, or a strategic need to integrate digital health services directly into their own software.
Building direct integrations with Australia’s digital health ecosystem is notoriously complex and often takes many months; and in some cases years, to complete successfully. Beyond the technical development effort, organisations must navigate strict security, compliance, testing and operational requirements while developing specialist knowledge that is rarely available within a typical software team.
A major challenge is integrating with the Healthcare Identifiers (HI) Service, which forms the backbone of Australia’s digital health ecosystem and underpins services such as electronic prescribing (eRx), Active Script List, My Health Record and many other Digital Health Agency initiatives. The HI Service is often considered one of the most complex components to implement due to its security, identity verification, compliance and operational requirements.
With rxConnect®, organisations gain access to a proven integration platform that has already solved much of this complexity. Rather than spending months researching specifications, establishing compliant connectivity, implementing HI Service integrations and working through accreditation requirements, development teams can focus on building their core product and clinical workflows.
Importantly, customers don’t just receive technology, they also gain access to a team that has successfully navigated these integration and compliance pathways before. We work closely with your team throughout the process, providing practical guidance on technical implementation, compliance obligations, testing requirements, accreditation preparation and production readiness. This experience helps organisations avoid common pitfalls, make informed decisions earlier, and move through the process as efficiently as possible.
Most organisations can begin compliance preparation and technical integration activities within days. While every project is different, rxConnect® can reduce the time, cost and complexity of connecting to Australia’s digital health infrastructure by many months, helping organisations bring new digital health products to market substantially faster and with greater confidence.

rxConnect Electronic Prescribing integration timeline
Yes, clients can engage Hitori to deliver both the application and the rxConnect® integration. This allows us to accelerate development, apply proven Australian Digital Health workflow patterns, and support the journey from initial concept through to production readiness.
rxConnect significantly reduces the technical complexity of electronic prescribing integrations, but your application must still meet the relevant Australian Digital Health Agency and Services Australia requirements.
Your prescribing workflows, user interface, clinical safety controls and business processes remain subject to conformance and compliance assessment.
Yes.
Beyond providing the middleware, Hitori can advise on workflow design, implementation approaches and common compliance considerations based on our experience delivering healthcare software and digital health integrations.
Our goal is to help ensure your platform is implementing the right foundations from the outset before entering formal conformance and compliance activities.
rxConnect® is available in two implementation tiers, depending on your organisations integration scope and level of support required.
Both tiers provide access to the same core middleware under a perpetual licence and are designed to accelerate integration by removing the need to build and validate complex Australian Digital Health infrastructure from scratch.
In practice, rxConnect® significantly reduces the amount of foundational development, learning, and validation work typically required across government integration layers and compliance environments, which in many cases can take 6–12+ months when built independently.
Because requirements vary across organisations and regulatory environments, pricing is not published publicly.
To determine the right tier for your use case, you can:
- Email us with a brief overview of your platform,
- or Book a meeting to discuss your integration and compliance requirements.
