THE CHALLENGE

The Burnet Institute faced a critical challenge in improving newborn care skills for healthcare providers stationed in remote hospitals across Laos. The existing training workflow was heavily manual, relying on the sharing of practice videos via WhatsApp. Under this framework, remote healthcare workers performed vital procedures on mannequins and transmitted their recorded videos directly to clinical supervisors for feedback.

 

This localised, manual approach created substantial operational difficulties, completely lacking the scalability, structured organisation, and secure data management required for a sustainable, long-term program. The institute lacked a centralised mechanism to securely track training progress, handle encrypted data transfers, or categorise content across distinct user roles – including Hospitals, Facilitators, Supervisors, and Healthcare workers – hindering their ability to review feedback and generate comprehensive reports for ongoing research and evaluation.

THE SOLUTION

HITORI was officially tasked with architecting and developing a comprehensive, fully integrated solution consisting of a web application, API, and a highly secure database designed explicitly to digitise and streamline this critical medical training workflow. 

To address the operational difficulties, the solution involved building a custom web-based dashboard capable of managing distinct user roles, structured video libraries, and ongoing assessment feedback mechanisms. 

A core pillar of the technical strategy focused on direct integration with the WhatsApp Business Platform via the Cloud API. By implementing this backend architecture, HITORI successfully ensured robust, encrypted data transfers for all video uploads and communications while seamlessly maintaining the existing, familiar communication channel utilised by remote workers.

THE END PRODUCT

The pump platform is presently deployed at The Alfred Hospital for individuals experiencing heart failure. Initial engagement feedback indicates that the application effectively delivers the following results:
